Ugandans love sports, most especially their football, and street children are no exception. Shortly after the opening of our Drop-in Centre in Kabale, we appointed a full-time football coach and mentor to the children.
The appointee was himself a street child for many years who was too old to enter into full-time education himself, but he was delighted to join the Amasiko team with the brief of starting a football team and providing physical education for all of the attendees of the centre.
Football has proven to be an extremely valuable tool in the process of rehabilitating the street children. In addition to providing healthy exercise is also helps the children to overcome their addictions, become part of a team and, crucially, to be children again and develop a sense of self-worth.
Football strip was provided by the Folkestone Invicta football club and donations funded football boots and balls.
Change a life today by investing in these children through the Amasiko street children programme.
